Value Added Tax, or VAT, is an indirect tax applied to the consumption of goods and services. It was implemented in Bahrain in January 2019 and in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in January 2018, with a standard rate of 5%. VAT is levied at each stage of the supply chain, with consumers generally bearing the cost while businesses act as tax collectors on behalf of the government.
